PDL President Vasile Blaga stated for ‘Gandul’ daily that former Justice Minister Catalin Predoiu is a valid option for the presidential race, Elena Udrea’s participation in the party’s internal race not being ruled out by Blaga, who pointed out that Udrea has to “evaluate herself” before taking a decision. “I believe Mr. Predoiu would be a valid option for the presidential elections and I believe he validates himself as a serious politician with every day that passes. He was an appreciated technocrat, but he keeps growing more and more as a politician,” Blaga stated for Gandul Live. He added that Predoiu did not announce his intention of running in the internal race. In what concerns possible tensions within PDL if Elena Udrea enters the race, the PDL President pointed out that he does not believe that would be the outcome, emphasizing that he would be the opponent of anyone who would try to hijack the debate. At the same time, Blaga pointed out that he backs Monica Macovei’s presence on the EP elections list, however the decision on whether she will top the list belongs to the party. In what concerns Elena Basescu’s possible candidacy for a new MEP term, Blaga stated that the President’s daughter has not entered the race although she is a PDL member. PDL’s Leadership College established on Monday that the Democrat-Liberals can sign up for the internal race for the designation of the party’s presidential candidate from October 7 to December 15.
