Nicolae Manolescu was reelected as chairman of the Writers’ Union of Romania (USR) for the third time in a row.
Nicolae Prelipceanu, the institution’s PR manager, stated for Mediafax that Nicolae Manolescu was elected chairman of USR with 705 votes, while his opponent Dan Mircea Cipariu received 196 votes; 37 of the votes were annulled.
Born in 1939, Nicolae Manolescu is a correspondent for the Romanian Academy, literary critic, editorialist, University Professor, essay writer, literary historian and former politician. He is also Romania’s Ambassador at UNESCO, being considered one of today’s most important literary critics. Since 1990, Manolescu has been the director of “Romania literara” magazine.
