25 million mobile phone subscribers, 4 million landline phone subscribers



At present, Romanian communication services connect around 4 million landline phone subscribers and 25.5 million mobile phone subscribers, while approximately held of Romanian households are connect to fixed internet and 85% of them are subscriptions to retransmission services for audio-video programs, data provided by ANCOM (the National Authority for Management and relations in Communications of Romania) yesterday shows, as cited by Mediafax. Furthermore, over 3.5 million offers for landline and mobile phone and internet connections are currently being developed by ANCOM through non-reimbursable public funds of approximately RON 886,198.32, while the overall value of the application development contract was RON 1,067,941.86, VAT non-included, entailing both the value of hardware equipment and software licenses necessary for the application to work. On October 9 and 10, the ANCOM Info-center can be accessed offline at Internet & Mobile World 2013, a fair held at Romexpo, focusing on the communications industry. On this occasion, Dan Nica, Minister of the Information Society, stated that selling the state-owned Romtelecom shares on the Bucharest Stock Exchange would be a clear indicator of how highly valued this company is on the market. When asked about the approximate value of the state-owned Romtelecom shares package, the Minister avoided giving a straight answer, but offered a potential value of “hundreds of millions of euros”.
