Over 130 movies, most of them having the premiere, will be screened at the 5th edition of the International Film Festival “Comedy Cluj” to be held Oct. 10-20, Mediafax reports. The opening gala of Comedy Cluj will take place at the “Florin Piersic” Cinema Hall starting with 7 p.m. “The start of the festival will be marked by the event-screening of the romantic comedy «Enough Said», staring actor James Gandolfini, in one of his final film roles. The film also stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Catherine Keener and Toni Collete,” said the director of Comedy Cluj Horatiu Dan. The movie, directed by Nicole Holofcener premiered on September 14 in New York, having generated positive reviews from critics. “Enough Said” is a film about relationships and their problems, trust, preconceptions, a warm-hearted comedy about life.
At this year’s edition, 10 movies from 8 countries will compete for the best feature film, i.e. “Enough Said” (the U.S., directed by Nicole Holofcener), “Song for Marion” (the UK, directed by Paul Andrew Williams), “Quartet” (the UK, by Dustin Hoffman), “Reality” (Italy, by Matteo Garrone), “Road North” (Finland, directed by Mika Kaurismäki), “Russendisko” (Germany, by Oliver Ziegenbalg), “Matterhorn” (the Netherlands, by Diederik Ebbinge), “English Vinglish” (India, directed by Gauri Shinde), “Paulette” (France, directed by Jérôme Enrico) and “Populaire” (France, by Régis Roinsard).
The festival also includes theatre plays, such as “Carnival Capers”. “To the forefront of this edition will be «Carnival Capers», directed by Silviu Purcarete, a theatre play presenting the world of carnival and fairs amid a whirl of comical situations built around love intrigues. The play will be held on October 16, as of 7 p.m. on the stage of the Students’ Culture Center,” Horatiu Dan said.
Oana and Amza Pelea will receive the Excellency Award of the International Film Festival Comedy Cluj. The prize bestowed postmortem on Amza Pellea comes in sign of recognition of the entire activity of the great actor and his contribution to the Romanian comedy. The award given to Oana Pellea is offered in sign of gratitude for her courage to follow in the footsteps of her father and for the efforts she has made throughout her career for the Romanian movie and theatre be recognized and praised worldwide. Both awards will be offered to Oana Pellea during an event to take place on October 18 at the Victoria Cinema Hall as of 7 p.m.
The awarding ceremony will be preceded by the screening of the movie “I Really Hate My Job” (directed by Oliver Parker), staring Oana Pellea, as well as big names in international cinema, namely Shirley Henderson, Neve Campbell and Danny Huston. In order to celebrate the activity of great actor Amza Pellea, the movie “Uncle Marin, the Billionaire” will be screened at the “Florin Piersic” cinema hall on Sunday starting from 12.30 p.m.
Over October 19-22, short movies will be screened at the Turda Salt Mine, with admission being free of charge. The tickets for adults cost RON 9 and those for students and retirees RON 7. At the same time, season tickets including 5 or 10 admissions can be purchased for RON 35 and RON 60 respectively. In addition, 6 VIP season tickets will be available for RON 150, providing access to all screenings, workshops, special events and parties.
