Premier Ponta thrilled at success story of former Giurgiu Shipyard

Prime Minister Victor Ponta, attending on Thursday the launching ceremony of four environment protection vessels manufactured by Shipyard ATG Giurgiu that will operate along the Danube, in four Romanian ports, said he is thrilled at the success story of the shipbuilding facility formerly known as the Giurgiu Shipyard.
‘I am very happy for having had here, today, a lot of positive input about success. This is about a shipyard that back in 1997 was in for closedown and was supposed to be dismantled as scrap iron, but instead was taken over in 2002 by Romanian businessmen. And when I am talking about Romanian businessmen I am the more so excited that they are doing some very serious work here and duly pay taxes and salaries,’ the Premier said, quoted by Agerpres. He also congratulated the employees and everyone who had a major involvement in these accomplishments. ‘At the same time I wish you to land as many orders and ships as possible, and although I am no ship expert like some other politicians, I started enjoying to have them multiplied,’ he added.
The Ships ECOSTAR 100, ECOSTAR 101, ECOSTAR 102 and ECOSTAR 103 were acquired by the Giurgiu National Company ‘Danube River Ports Administration’ by accessing European funds under a project regarding ship waste collection and processing and intervention in case of pollution on the Danube. The four are multifunctional watercraft customized for environmental protection and will be used for such actions in the ports of Giurgiu, Drobeta Turnu Severin, Cernavoda and Calarasi.
We have a possibility to increase the salary fund in the public sector by 3-4 pc
On the other hand, the premier said that the increase in the public sector salary fund is possible by up to 4 percent in 2014, but the way in which the additional amounts will be distributed has not been decided yet. ‘This is what we have to decide by the end of the month, if we increase the smallest salaries in the public administration or if we try to cover the negative impact of the CAS reduction,’ Ponta said. ‘It is a matter we are currently debating in the Finance Ministry and also with the other ministers and then we shall discuss it at the end of the month with the delegation of the European Commission, the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, as afterward, in the first session of November, we shall adopt the budget draft in the Government and send it to Parliament,’ the Prime Minister explained.
