PM Ponta: Female President of PSD is not a bad idea

The statements have been made at the conference for the election of PSD’s Women’s Organization’s president, with Rovana Plumb being re-elected
Prime Minister Victor Ponta did not rule out the possibility that the Social Democratic Party would be ruled by a woman in the future. “I understand that I am currently carrying out my last term as PSD leader, because the next president will be a woman. It does not seem a bad idea at all, but the woman should head a party not carrying the name of a man,” said Ponta on Saturday in Iasi where he attended the National Conference of Social Democratic Women. Rovana Plumb was re-elected president of the Social-Democrat Party (PSD)’s Women’s Organization, a position she has been holding since 2005. As a matter of fact, Rovana Plumb was the sole contender for the office. Ponta made the aforementioned statement in reply to the declaration made by PP-DD President Simona Man, who voiced hope for PSD to be led by a woman after the next PSD congress.
PM Ponta also said that he trusts female politicians more than male politicians.
“I trust female politicians more. You are more loyal, you fight against the idea of betrayal and opportunism. There are in this room female fans and supporters of Mr. Ion Iliescu, Mr. Adrian Nastase, Mr. Mircea Geoana. I wish a group of ladies in PSD would call themselves my fans at some point,” said Ponta.
He told the participants in the conference that Romania has to get rid of “the boil”. “Boc is no longer in office, neither are Anastase and Udrea, there is still a gentleman who must step down”, said the PM. Ponta underscored that his objective and the objective of PSD is “to rectify the mistakes made over the last ten years.” “We must not let at the helm of the country a man having the same flows and defects, we must heal the wounds of the past ten years, replace hate with tolerance,” Mediafax quoted Ponta as saying.
