The industrial production increased 2.1 percent in the euro area and 1.6 percent in the European Union (EU) in the month of August 2013, compared with the same period of last year, the highest increase among member states being registered in Romania (6 percent), as show the data released by the European Office for Statistics (Eurostat) on Monday. However, in the month of August 2013 compared with July 2013, Romania registered a 1 percent decrease in the industrial production, in the conditions in which according to Eurostat the industrial production increased 1 percent in the euro area and 0.5 percent in the EU. Compared with July 2013, the industrial production grew in 13 states and decreased in 10 states. According to the data released by the National Institute for Statistics (INS), in August 2013 compared with the previous month, the industrial production, as working day and seasonally adjusted series, dropped 1 percent, following the declines registered in the mining industry (minus 7.7 percent) and in the manufacturing industry (minus 0.1 percent).
