The Interior Ministers of eight countries, members of the Salzburg Forum, were expected in Bucharest, yesterday, on the occasion of the Salzburg Forum’s Ministerial Conference, an important regional platform of cooperation and consultations in the area of internal security, according to the information the Romanian Interior Ministry (MAI) remitted to Agerpres.
Thus, yesterday and today, the Interior Ministry is hosting the Ministerial Conference of the Salzburg Forum, which will take place at the National Art Museum of Romania.
“Within the Forum, the Interior Ministers of the European Union member states hold consultations and establish common positions on various topics of the European agenda and this conference represents a good opportunity for a common approach of the other interest topics for the states present in Bucharest, including those concerning the Schengen issue,” the Interior Ministry underscores.
Romania, through the Interior Ministry, ensures in the second half of 2013 the Presidency of the Salzburg Forum, during which it promotes the dialogue and cooperation among the member states of this political consultation and multilateral cooperation mechanism and the Conference of Bucharest represents the most important event under the Romanian Presidency.
“The objectives Romania has during the Presidency, also to be debated in the Conference, refer to the combat of cyber-crime, a more efficient management of the illegal migration, the future multiannual programme in the area of internal affairs – the post-Stockholm programme, the evaluation of the synergy among regional mechanisms in South-Eastern Europe and their capitalisation for a better and more comprehensive approach of the regional security,” MAI points out.
The conference has as guests Interior Ministers and Secretaries of State of the Salzburg Forum member states – Austria, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia and Hungary.
At the same time, representatives of the European Commission, the European agencies (Frontex, Europol, BESA) and of the international organisations (ICMPD) will also participate in the conference, MAI informs.
The Presidency of the Salzburg Forum rotates every six months, alphabetically, being ensured by each of the member states. Romania holds the Presidency of this cooperation platform until December 31, 2013.
