People’s Movement Party and the Civic Force are preparing for a merger

According to sources cited by Evenimentul Zilei, PMP (the People’s Movement Party) led by Eugen Tomac and FC (Civic Force) led by Mihai Razvan Ungureanu are preparing for a merger, although PMP is still waiting for a final court decision on its establishment as party, as members of PMP expect the Civic Force to make the first move. Discussions on the merger will be conducted following the justice department’s decision on the matter. The same sources say the new party’s list for the MEP elections will be opened by MEP Cristian Preda, currently suspended from PDL and not included on the Liberal Democrats’ list for the European Parliament. Preda was suspended for six months for taking a stand against the leadership’s decisions.
Although PNTCD is part of the same alliance with the party run by Mihai Razvan Ungureanu, it has expressed an intention not to join a possible joint project between PMC and FC because, in the words of Aurelian Pavelescu, leader of PNTCD, it does not want to lose its own identity. He sees the unification of the right as an alliance created before the MEP elections to support a joint candidate for the presidential elections, he concluded.
