CNA reports OTV case to prosecutors

The National Audiovisual Council (CNA) decided Tuesday to report to prosecutors the fact that, starting Friday night, OTV illegally broadcasts in Romania, without an audiovisual license, being retransmitted on the satellite frequency of DD TV. The Council also ruled that DD TV must temporarily suspend its emmission. The decision was made under article 96, paragraph 1 of the Law of audiovisual, which stipulates that “It is a crime punished with prison from 3 months to one year or with crim inal fine from RON 5,000 to RON 100,000 the broadcasting of television/radio programmes without license for airing or using the radio frequencies in ground-based digital system, if the deed threatens national security, public order or public health, or if it can create economic or operational problems to other providers of electronic communication networks or services, or to users.” On 22 January 2013, CNA withdrew with unanimity of votes the audiovisual license of the OTV television, so the channel controlled by Dan Diaconescu may no longer broadcast.
