Leszek Czarnecki, will take over RIB

With a wealth estimated by Forbes at USD 1.4 bln, Leszek Czarnecki isw among the richest people in Poland, controls a financial empire in Eastern Europe and holds the world record of diving in an undersea cave. Czarnecki (51) got his wealth by developing in the ‘90s the biggest leasing company of Poland, which he listed in 2000 on the Warsaw bourse and sold, a year later, to the French bank Credit Agricole against USD 280 M, Forbes reports. Since then, he expanded his business in Ukraine, Russia, Belarus and eventually Romania, where he will take over the Romanian International Bank (RIB).Czarnecki ranked 4th in the latest Forbes top of billionaires in Poland. A Ph.D. in Economy, he is the majority shareholder in Getin Holding, the vehicle through which he will take over RIB as well. He also controls Getin Noble Bank, the sixth largest bank in Poland, based on assets. At the end of last year, Getin Noble Bank had assets of ZLT 57.43 bln (EUR 13.7 bln at the exchange rate in effect Wednesday). A newer business of the Polish billionaire is the investment fund Open Finance TFI, through which he seeks opportunities in shares, bonds, foreign currency markets and mixed funds, according to Forbes.
