One of the veterans of Romanian journalism passed on Sunday, aged 71. For forty years, Calapodescu wrote for ‘Libertatea’ – previously called ‘Information from Bucharest’ – before the December 1989 Revolution. He spent his last years writing for ‘Jurnalul National’. Petru Calapodescu, nicknamed ‘nea Petrica’ by fellow newspaper writers, worked with many journalists who are now at the height of their careers. The entire community mourns him and has offered support to his wife during what must be a troubling time. The journalist’s body was taken to the chapel of Bellu Orthodox Church yesterday at 12 p.m. The burial ceremony will take place at the same cemetery today, 1.00 p.m.
