Senate Speaker Crin Antonescu said on Monday during the visit in Poland that he does not shut out Victor Ponta’s possibly running in the presidential elections, pointing out that in such a situation ‘one can no longer speak of USL’, Agerpres reports.
Antonescu was asked if the constitutional reform is possible by next year, specifically until presidential elections, and what will happen if Prime Minister Victor Ponta decides to join the presidential race himself. “I couldn’t run all alone anyway(…) Speaking of my own and Mr. Ponta’s participation in next year’s presidential elections, I don’t know yet. For the time being, you know what our official stance is. Mr. Ponta is the Prime Minister and he seems quite busy, so believe me, in this situation, I am the official candidate of Union. Yet much can happen in everyday life and in politics too in one year. I do not exclude such a variant, but in this case one can no longer speak about the Union, but then again, I don’t see any drama in this,” replied Antonescu attending a debate organized at the Polish Institute for International Affairs.
