Basescu requests re-examination of the Law granting legal entity status to SRR and SRTV

On Monday, President Traian Basescu requested that the law granting SRR (the Romanian Radio Broadcasting Company) and SRTV (the Romanian Television Corporation) the status of legal entity – either nationally or internationally – in order to broadcast programs be re-examined because the regulation “is very vague and does not specify any eligibility and opportunity requirements.” In turn, the government commented that President Basescu’s request that the Parliament re-examine the amendment of the law on the structure of SRR and SRTV will only manage to postpone the adoption of legislative provisions that are meant to facilitate the Romanian television station’s broadcast in the Republic of Moldova. According to a press release, the Executive accused the Presidency of not showing support for promoting TVR’s broadcast in the Republic of Moldova.
