Possible new tax on gasoline and diesel oil

The government is analyzing the possibility of introducing a tax on gasoline and diesel oil prices, in order to hike the funds needed in order to build road infrastructure, Premier Victor Ponta announced on Romania TV, Mediafax informs. “It’s an older idea, back from the period in which Mr. Fenechiu was minister, and it consists of introducing a certain tax on the price of gasoline, diesel oil, a tax that would fuel solely the funds necessary for the building of road infrastructure. We have to analyze it and see, I’m certainly not ruling it out from the start,” Ponta said on Romania TV. Former Transportation Minister Relu Fenechiu stated recently that he found the solution that would create extra funds for the construction of several kilometers of highway, namely the hiking of the fuel excise by EUR 0.10 and the taxation of heavy traffic.
