Basescu: Europe will mobilize political resources to meet challenges

President Traian Basescu sent, on Friday, a message on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the entry into force of the Treaty on European Union signed at Maastricht, on which occasion he expressed confidence that Europe will manage to mobilize the available political resources to meet the challenges ahead. ‘Today, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the European Union , I wish to express my appreciation for the vision and political courage of the European leaders who have made possible the transition to this new stage of Europe’s development. I express, as well, my trust that Europe will succeed to mobilize the political resources available to solve the major challenges it is facing at present. The European Union is at another milestone for its development and sustainable solutions for its ambitious targets, it has set, cannot be found other than on the basis of some political investments to match the example of predecessors’ commitment’, the President’s message said, quoted by Agerpres.
President Basescu said that Romania will continue to support the EU advancement toward a ‘real ‘ political union. ‘On this occasion, I wish to reiterate the assurance that Romania can have a valuable contribution to the general debate within the EU on the future integration construction. Romania will continue to sustain the progress of the European Union towards a genuine political union based on the understanding that an increasingly integrated Europe will be able to manage in its interest the changes of a more and more globalized world and to respond, at the same time, to the legitimate development aspirations of the Romanian nation’, Basescu also said in his message .
