Macovei: Zgonea and Fenechiu are against the European Prosecutors Office

PDL MEP Monica Macovei is accusing Deputies’ Chamber Speaker Valeriu Zgonea (PSD), and Relu Fenechiu (PNL), the chairman of the Deputies’ Chamber European affairs commission, of rejecting the establishment of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office because they do not want another institution authorized to investigate them. “Valeriu Zgonea (PSD) and Relu Fenechiu (PNL) should ask the people who have voted for them if they feel offended that the European Union seeks to establish a European Prosecutor’s Office aimed at investigating EU-fraud happening in all EU member states. They will be surprised to learn the opinion of their electors. But Zgonea and Fenechiu, exactly like their Pay Day Loans party chairmen Ponta and Antonescu, have not been serving for a long time the interests of the ordinary citizens, fed up with corruption and frauds, but only their personal interests: God forbid any new institution should have the authority to investigate them,” Mediafax quotes a press release of the PDL MEP. Macovei claims that the “reasoned opinion” sent to the European authorities by Valeriu Zgonea, as regards the regulation bill on the establishment of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, “is equivalent to a negative assent that rejects the establishment of a European body aimed at fighting frauds and corruption affecting the Union’s financial interests.”
