Andrei Placinta turns himself in

The son of former Senator Sorina Placinta, Andrei Placinta, sentenced to four years and six months in prison for attempted murder and assault, turned himself in yesterday morning at the Timis Police headquarters, Mediafax informs. Currently, he is in the custody of the Timis County Police, but in the upcoming days he will be transferred to the Timisoara penitentiary. Andrei Placinta was brought to trial in early June 2011 by the Bucharest Prosecutor’s Office on charges of aggravated attempted murder, robbery, assault and disturbance of public order in connection with an armed incident that occurred on December 6, 2010, also involving his girlfriend and several other witnesses on Berzei Street in Capital’s district 1. Several passers by saw him literally jump the woman’s car and made an attempt to stop him. One of the onlookers tried to stop Andrei, but Placinta ran down the witness with his car and then left the car and ran away. The man suffered several injuries and was admitted to the hospital.
