Securitate file of Ambassador Stork launched at Humanitas

Earlier this year, Humanitas Publishing House issued the Securitate file of the Mr. Coen Stork, Ambassador of The Netherlands in Romania between 1988 and 1993, entitled Dosarul de Securitate al unui ambasador. Today, from 7 p.m. at Humanitas bookstore (Bdul Regina Elisabeta), the book will be launched in the presence of its main character: Coen Stork. According to a review carried out by Humanitas, Coen Stork was appointed Ambasador to Romania in 1988. As soon as he arrived to Bucharest, he was suspected of espionage. Romania’s secret police, the Securitate, began to trail him in the Bucharest streets, listen to his phone calls, rummage around through his bookcase, steal his notebook and plant undercover spies (female cooks, housekeepers, guitar professors, secretaries) at his residence. The book includes documents revealing the Securitate’s abuses and the unbearable atmospere at the end of 1980.
