Vaccine producer Cantacuzino Institute in Bucharest gets re-homologated

Premier Victor Ponta yesterday advised Romanians to trust the vaccine that will continue being produced by the Cantacuzino Institute, adding that he will take the vaccine too, although his problems are not related to influenza, but to “different things.”
While visiting the Cantacuzino Institute together with Health minister Eugen Nicolaescu, Premier Victor Ponta said yesterday that he is glad about losing the bet with the minister regarding the institute’s capacity to further produce vaccine, as more than 200,000 doses of flu vaccine will be produced before December 15 and 200,000 more after this date, Mediafax reports. The prime minister mentioned that the process of production and homologation is well advanced and will allow Romania to avoid importing this vaccine from now on. In the context, PM Ponta advised Romanians to trust the vaccine produced by the Cantacuzino Institute, as he will take the vaccine himself, although his problems are not related to flu, but to “different things.” He received from the institute a small box containing the first dose of vaccine made after the resuming of production.
The Minister of Health, Eugen Nicolaescu (PNL), announced Friday that the 400,000 doses of vaccine against influenza made by the Cantacuzino Institute will reach the market around December 20. According to the minister, next year Romania will be supplied with flu vaccine produced only by the Cantacuzino Institute.
Nicolaescu added that the first 200,000 doses of flu vaccine purchased by the Ministry of Health (MS) for the immunisation campaign were sent, starting last week, to the county departments of public health, which will distribute them to family physicians. The remaining 400,000 doses will enter the Unifarm stores this week and, in the coming weeks, depending on the needs of the anti-influenza campaign and on the recommendations made by INSP experts on the activity of respiratory viral infections, authorities will plan their distribution in the territory.
