Ultra-light aircraft crashes in Targu Mures; pilot survives

An ultra-light aircraft crashed yesterday on a street close to the aerodrome in Targu Mures city, according to Mediafax. There was only the pilot inside the airplane which crashed in an area near Libertatii Street, close to Targu Mures aerodrome. “The Cessna aircraft crashed in a green space after taking off. According to the pilot, a technical error occurred and the craft hit a tree and then crashed to the ground. The impact was followed by a fire, extinguished shortly afterwards, and the aircraft burnt entirely,” says spokesperson for Emergency Inspectorate (ISU) Mures, Mihai Gagyi. According to him, the pilot survived the impact and came out of the plane by himself. “The pilot, aged 57, managed to escape the plane and is stable now,” added Gagyi, who wasn’t able to say whether the plane was a private property or belonged to the nearby aerodrome. A SMURD (emergency rescue service) ambulance reached the impact area to carry the pilot to the Emergency Local Hospital, but the man refused. “The man suffered a first-degree burn of his scalp, but has no major trauma and signed a release by which he refused to be carried and admitted to a hospital,” said chief of SMURD Mures, Cristian Boeriu.
