Steaua Bucharest captain and midfielder Alexandru Bourceanu was designated the best Romanian football player of 2013 on Tuesday evening at the Romanian Football Gala organized by the Journalists’ Sports Club (CSJ) and the Association of Romanian Football Players (AFR) at the Ambasad’or club in Otopeni. Laurentiu Reghecampf, who won the title with Steaua, was designated the best coach. Ciprian Tatarusanu (Steaua) was the best goalkeeper of the year, his teammate Florin Gardos was the best fullback, Petrolul Ploiesti’s Ovidiu Hoban was the best midfielder and ACS Poli Timisoara’s Szabolcs Szekely was the best striker. Szekely was preferred over Raul Rusescu and Claudiu Keseru, while Hoban was preferred over Alexandru Maxim (Stuttgart) and Constantin Budescu (Astra Giurgiu).
Despite being nominated for the best fullback of the year award alongside Iasmin Latovlevici, former Steaua player Vlad Chiriches (Tottenham) did not win any award. Brazil’s Eric de Oliveira (Pandurii Targu Jiu) won the best foreign player in League I award, being preferred over Deyvidas Matulevicius (Pandurii) and Federico Piovaccari (Steaua).
