EIB to help R. of Moldova funding electric connection to Romania

President Traian Basescu on Thursday received at the Cotroceni Palace the delegation of the European Investment Bank headed by EIB President Werner Hoyer. According to the Presidential Administration release, Traian Basescu thanked for the very good collaboration the EIB had with the authorities of Romania, but also with the business environment, and asked the intensification of the EIB aid in promoting the use of European money for guaranteeing the access of SMEs to funding. At the same time, Traian Basescu asked EIB’s help for identifying some solutions for funding the implementing of the last stage of connecting the Republic of Moldova’s electric grids to Romania. Hoyer reconfirmed the intention of initiating and completing a high number of projects in Romania and gave thanks for the good collaboration the institution he headed had with Romania. Also, the EIB official, who previously visited Romania in March this year, also met the Romanian PM Victor Ponta. On that occasion, Ponta said that the EIB remains an essential partner of Romania in all big projects, as well as in funding small and medium-sized enterprises. The National School of Political and Administrative Studies (SNSPA) awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa to Mihai Tanasescu, vice-president of EIB. In the speech delivered during the ceremony, PM Ponta praised the activity of the former Finance minister from the government of 2000-2004. “Mihai Tanasescu was one of the best Finance ministers Romania had, and I wish that the new ministers of the acting government are at least as good as Mihai Tanasescu was,” the PM stated.
