President Traian Basescu on Wednesday received at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace Cardinal Kurt Koch, the President of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity and President of the Holy See´s Commission for Religious Relations with the Jews. ‘During the meeting, Mr. President Traian Basescu voiced his gratitude and respect for the His Holiness Pope Francis and spoke about the convergent manner in which Romania and the Holy See understand to approach the phenomenon of migration, from the perspective of a culture promoting solidarity and hospitality’, according to a press release of the Presidential Administration, quoted by Agerpres. The head of state also appreciated ‘the special role’ played by the Churches throughout the history of Romania, as well as the contribution brought by the Churches to the common good, especially in the social and education fields, said the abovementioned source. In his turn, Cardinal Kurt Koch underscored the importance of development of ecumenical cooperation among the Churches, which guarantees the religious freedom and cooperation among the various cults.
