Farewell visit of Lithuania’s Ambassador in Romania

Romanian Foreign Minister Titus Corlatean on Wednesday met Lithuania’s ambassador Vladimir Jarmolenko on a farewell visit, as he ends his mission to Romania. FM Corlatean said 2013 can be regarded as ‘the year of common re-discovery’, given the large number of high-level bilateral contacts, including the ones amid Lithuania’s holding the six-monthly presidency of the European Union Council, according to a Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs press release.
‘From among the 2013 calendar meetings, the two sides evoked the visit paid by Prime Minister Victor Ponta to Vilnius, the first at a prime minister’s level between the two states (Sept. 23-24), Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius’s participation in the CEE-China Forum hosted by Bucharest on Nov. 26, the Lithuanian foreign affairs minister’s visit to Bucharest, on the occasion of the Annual Meeting of the Romanian Ambassadors (Aug. 28), the joint visit paid to Albania and Macedonia by the Romanian foreign minister, as the SEECP Chairman-in-Office and his Lithuanian counterpart, as the country holding the EU Council presidency (Oct. 7-8)’, reads the document quoted by Agerpres.
Corlatean said the Romanian-Lithuanian economic exchanges have been on an upward trend over the last years and added Romania is interested in further promoting the economic relations with Lithuania.
‘He also voiced interest in the cooperation of the Romanian and Lithuanian firms in other markets’, the release said.
The Romanian top diplomat hailed the progress made by the EU Council Lithuanian President, particularly on such difficult files as the Eastern Partnership and the 2014-2020 Multi-annual Financial Framework. He thanked for the support rendered by the Lithuanian presidency to the European aspirations of the Eastern Partnership states amid the Vilnius Summit, notably the advance on the Republic of Moldova’s and Georgia’s political association and economic integration process, the ministry announced.
