Eight PPDD lawmakers migrate to PSD group

A new lot of eight members of the Parliament representing the People’s Party Dan Diaconescu (PPDD) defected to UNPR and will continue their activity in the PSD groups, the party led by Gabriel Oprea announced Thursday. Following the move, PSD already has a parliamentary majority without the two major right-wing parties, PNL and PDL. Thus, PSD, UNPR, PC, UDMR and the minorities have a total number of 311 mandates. The PSD group reached 240 MPs and the majority needed to support the government or pass organic laws requires 291 mandates.
The eight MPs formally informed the speakers of the two Houses, through documents registered in the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies, that starting 12 December 2013 they declare themselves as UNPR legislators and will operate in the groups of the Social Democratic Party.
