Catalin Predoiu, the PDL candidate for the presidential elections

PDL president Vasile Blaga announced, after a meeting of the Directing Board of PDL, that Catalin Predoiu was designated as candidate for the presidential elections, as he obtained 100,000 votes in the internal elections held within the party, while Gheorghe Falca was only voted by 40,000 members. Blaga added that he believes that the PDL representative will also be the candidate of the political right. .
On the other hand, Blaga yesterday rejected the criticism voiced by President Basescu against PDL. Blaga said that, in his opinion, the president’s tough stance on PDL is unfair and incorrect, because the head of state “had all the possible information” in order to correctly evaluate the situation. The reaction of the PDL leader comes after Basescu last week lashed out at PDL MEP Monica Macovei, whom he accused of failing to react when the leaders of PDL groups in the Parliament signed the draft modification of the Penal Code.
