Daniel Barbu, sanctioned for statements about HIV patients

Former Minister of Culture Daniel Barbu was given a warning sanction by CNCD (the National Council for Combating Discrimination) with respect to his statements about financing the anti-HIV program. He was questioned yesterday by the Council and a representative of HIV/AIDS patients. The former Minister of Culture pointed out he has taken responsibility for the statements he made by issuing a public apology and offering his resignation, while the UNOPA representatives admitted in turn that these actions were sufficient. Consequently, the Panel of Directors of CNCD ruled that Barbu is guilty of discrimination by having created a hostile, humiliating, and degrading context for persons infected with HIV/AIDS, and sanctioned him by issuing a warning.
