The Competition Council has fined Transcarpat Sportours International Romania, J.P. Sauer & Sohn Germany, San Swiss Arms Switzerland, and Brugger & Thomet Switzerland an overall of EUR 2.8 million for fixing several bids organized by MoD (the Ministry of National Defence), Mediafax notes. The companies were sanctioned for the concerted fixing of “infantry weapons” and “optical devices” purchase bids organized between 2005 and 2007. The Council found that S.C. Transcarpat Sportours International S.R.L had been legally authorized by J.P. Sauer & Sohn GmbH, San Swiss Arms AG, and Brugger & Thomet AG to represent them at bids and in addition had drafted the offers for each of the companies. The product portfolios were in such a way divided as to avoid competition between the three companies, a Competition Council press release shows.
