The drivers who carry “hitchhikers” without any authorization risk to get fines of RON 1,000 to 5,000, according to an Emergency Ordinance from the Ministry of Transport whose reasons are that “these illegal practices” affect the activity of the authorized companies, the state budget and the traffic safety, reports Mediafax. According to the law, the public transport services such as taxis or hired cabs are part of the community public service and run under the control, management or coordination of the local administration authority and are performed only by authorized transporters. “(…) These illegal practices in the road passenger car transportation hinder a competing and fair environment on the market of passenger road transport,” reads the substantiation note of the bill.
