In 2014, agriculture, IT and the outsourcing will be the main sectors of interest for the foreign investors in Romania, according to Accace, one of the main outsourcing and business consultancy companies in Central and Eastern Europe. “The main argument for agriculture is the major interest displayed by foreign investment funds for purchasing land and farms, as well as for farming and operating them. The Romanian land has major advantages for investors, due to the fact that very large areas qualify for bio farming, which raises the end price,” Bogdan Badea, Managing Director Accace Romania explains in a press release.
In its turn, IT remains a field of interest, due to the growing demand for applications and software development, a sector where Romania is regarded as one of the most mature outsourcing markets. Another sector that attracted – and still attracts – companies is represented by outsourcing centers, with a very high potential. The difference from the two aforementioned sectors is that it generates smaller incomes for the economy, but has the advantage of creating more jobs.
Analysing Romania’s preparedness with regard to foreign investments, the experts of Accace discovered several benefits and setbacks: labour force and low operation costs, while the setbacks are bureaucracy, which investors perceive as excessive, and lack of fiscal predictability. As a matter of fact, the lack of legislative and fiscal predictability are among the main risks posed by investments in Romania, while in certain fields – such as the IT – one can also mention problems in finding skilled labour. Among the most active investors in Romania one can mention investment funds and companies from Western Europe, but there is no clear segmentation of the sectors which sparked their interest.
