Table tennis player Valeria Borza dies of meningitis

French team Lys-lez-Lannoy’s Romanian table tennis player Valeria Borza (29) died on Thursday evening because of bacterial meningitis. The athlete was about to board a bus for the airport in Charleroi, from which she was planning to fly back to Romania for the holidays. The athlete complained of extremely powerful headaches and was taken to hospital in Roubaix. There she was hospitalized in the intensive care unit however she quickly slipped into a coma. Diagnosed with bacterial meningitis, Valeria Borza died on Thursday evening. Romania’s Bernadette Szocs, who was part of Romania’s team at this year’s European Championships, also plays for Lys-lez-Lannoy, ‘Adevarul’ daily writes. After the cause of death was found out – bacterial meningitis – the club for which Valeria Borza died was quarantined. That is why Bernadette Szocs was also unable to return to Romania.
