Unemployment rate hits 7 pc, employment rate at 61 pc in Q3

The Romanian unemployment rate stood at 7 per cent in Q3, while the employment rate of the working-age Romanians was 61 per cent, show figures made public by the National Institute for Statistics on Friday. According to the statistic research of the household labour force, the employment rate of the working-age persons (15-64 year olds) was of 61 per cent, while 65.1 per cent of the 20 to 64 year olds had a job, lagging behind by 4.9 per cent from the 70 per cent national target set amid the 2020 Europe Strategy. Romania had 10,162,000 working-age persons in the third quarter, 9,450,000 of whom had a job and 712,000 were unemployed. The Institute figures reveal that the employment rate was higher for men (68.3 pc) than the 53.7 percent for women and for the rural residents (62.9 pc as compared to 59.5 pc in the urban area). Furthermore, 25.3 per cent of the young Romanians (aged 15-24) had a job.
The same INS data reveals the economic growth in 2012 has been revised downwardly by 0.1 percentage points, from 0.7 per cent to 0.6 per cent.
‘The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) estimated for 2012 – semi-final data – was RON 586.749 bln in current prices, on the rise – in real terms – by 0.6 per cent from 2011. Compared to the provisional version, in the semi-final one the nominal GDP estimated for 2012 decreased by 0.1 per cent,’ the INS informs.
