President Traian Basescu was the best politician of 2013, according to votes cast by readers of EVZ, the same as last year. He received many more votes than Victor Ponta, the second runner-up. 2,764 persons voted in favour of the President, whereas the Prime Minister only received 430 of votes. According to the latest CSOP poll, cited by evz.ro, even after serving nine years, people trust Traian Basescu (one per cent) more than presidency candidate Crin Antonescu. Given his announcement that he would not step out from politics after his presidential term comes to an end, Traian Basescu will most likely play a crucial role in the politics of 2014. According to evz.ro, Victor Ponta’s performance as head of the government did not persuade newspaper readers by a long shot. On the contrary, the Prime Minister was viewed as a weaker politician, with 950 votes, compared to alliance partner and second runner-up, Crin Antonescu. The latter received 439 votes and was followed by PDL head Vasile Blaga (422 votes). Leader of PP-DD, Dan Diaconescu, received 341 votes, while PC mentor Dan Voiculescu was deemed the weakest politician (165 votes).
