Gica Popescu has confirmed that a former colleague of his wants to run for the office of President of the Romanian Football Federation (FRF). The elections are scheduled on March 5. The former international announced that Ioan Andone will run for the office: “I’ve talked to Andone today and he told me he would like to run. We were central fullbacks at the national team, we played against each other in the championship and he would be an important contender in the elections. But there would be a fair-play competition between us. Being a fullback I’ve grown accustomed with attacks. I am convinced they will intensify as the elections get near. After 115 games played for the national team I have the necessary experience to handle them,” Popescu said.
