Four options for Romania’s portfolio in future EC

Foreign Minister Titus Corlatean stated on Sunday evening on Antena 3 that he proposed to Premier Victor Ponta four options for the portfolio that Romania seeks to have within the future European Commission (EC) and pointed out that that there are also names for the position of commissioner. “I proposed to the Prime Minister a series of portfolios, they are not meant to be discussed publicly. Each state manages as intelligently as possible its own interests but there are two, three, even four important options for Romania, options that we are discussing. Obviously there are talks on mutual support, arrangements on that board,” Corlatean stated. The minister pointed out that several names are also being discussed, but he refused to disclose them. “The profile of the portfolio matters maybe more than the names. (…) We are interested in having a portfolio that would make the most of Romania’s positions and interests and we have solutions from this point of view.”
