“Ariadne of Naxos” staged on Friday at Radio Hall in Bucharest

The show marks the start of events at Radio Hall celebrating 150 years since composer Richard Strauss’ birth.

Opera “Ariadne of Naxos” by Richard Strauss will be staged at the Radio Hall in Bucharest on Friday at 7 pm, with mezzo-soprano Ruxandra Donose and actor Claudiu Bleont in the cast, according to a press release quoted by Mediafax.
Mezzo-soprano Ruxandra Donose sings on the greatest lyrical stages in the world, such as the Los Angeles Opera, Royal House Opera House – Covent Garden, Metropolitan Opera, Staatsoper of Vienna, La Fenice Theatre of Venice, and she will play the role of the Composer in the show “Ariadne of Naxos.”
Claudiu Bleont, who will play the Major-Domo, is an actor with a large panel of roles on all the major stages in Romania. The story will be brought to life by the National Radio Orchestra conducted by Tiberiu Soare. “This is an eclectic masterpiece, a harmonious mixture of styles. I do not know why, but studying this score stirs in me an undefined pensiveness, a yearning after some age which, in fact, has never been there,” says major conductor of Radio Romania Orchestras and Choruses, about the work they are preparing.
The plot of “Ariadne of Naxos” shows one of the most wealthy people in early 19th  century Vienna holding a musical evening for which he ordered an opera. There are a lot of imbroglios, therefore the lyrical artists have to stage their work in front of the guests, in parallel with a circus show. Thus, an opera within an opera where the story of ancient characters (Ariadne, Bacchus, etc) tangles with the slapstick. “Vocally speaking, but also from the actors’ viewpoint, the opera is difficult, that is why is sung relatively slowly”, says soprano Lavinia Chereches, who plays the major role.
Tickets are available on www.bilete.ro, in the offices of the Romanian Postal Company, in the Inmedio shops labelled “Bilete.ro,” in the Germanos retail chains and at the ticket booth of the Radio Hall.
