Portfolios and works of art by Romanian painters and sculptors will be featured at branches of the Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR) around the world, in promotional travel agencies, as well as lobbies of Romanian hotels, Maria Grapini, Minister Delegate for SMEs and Tourism, stated for Mediafax. “On January 27, I will meet with the Advisory Council for Tourism to go over my suggestions. (…) One of Romania’s assets is cultural tourism and we should promote it more,” Grapini said. Both ICR branches and travel agencies aimed at promoting Romania should reserve a small space for artists to display their portfolios and contact information, if not their works of art, she continued. Grapini mentioned she will attempt to persuade Romanian hotel owners to exhibit works of art and portfolios of Romanian artists in the lobbies of their establishments.
The Minister Delegate for SMEs and Tourism also announced that Maia Morgenstern, Dan Puric, and Helmuth Duckadam will be appointed ambassadors of Romanian tourism in late January and assigned to promote Romanian tourism abroad, alongside other public figures, such as Octavian Bellu, Mariana Bitang, Nadia Comaneci, Ovidiu Lipan Tandarica, panpipes player Nicolae Voiculet, Dumitru Prunariu, Dinu Sararu, and Constantin Chiriac, theater director in Sibiu. They will all be issued diplomatic passports. Eight tourism ambassadors were appointed in August: Grigore Lese, Elisabeta Lipa. Ilie Nastase, Ivan Patzaichin, Stefan Popa Popas, Iolanda Balas Soter, Gabriela Szabo, and Gheorghe Zamfir. Diplomatic passports have so far been awarded to former track and field world champion Gabriela Szabo, former tennis player Ilie Nastase, and musician Gheorghe Zamfir.
