Romania plans to open new ferryboat routes between the Constanta Port and Turkish ports, and rehabilitate ferry transport between Constanta and the Poti and Batumi ports in Georgia, Ramona Manescu, Minister of Transportation, stated at a meeting with Maria Damanaki, European Commissioner for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, held January 30, according to Agerpres.
According to the press release issued by the Ministry of Transportation, the meeting focused on Romania’s role in developing regional cooperation in the Black Sea area by intensifying sea and maritime cooperation with riparian states, and on our country’s contribution toward promoting joint projects with Black Sea riparian states, particularly non-EU countries, which are aimed at sustainable development in the blue economy. “Romania can play an important role in promoting the European Union’s sustainable development policies in the Black Sea area, given the strong cooperation between Romania and the riparian states. This facilitates drawing these states’ interest in European projects,” Ramona Manescu stated.
Other topics of discussion included sustainable tourism in the Danube Delta, illegal fishing activities in the Black Sea, and regional projects on data collection and exchange of information, as well as financial support from the EU for regional projects regarding the Black Sea aimed at research, environment, fishing, sustainable development in coastal areas, energy, natural resources, and transport.
