Decision regarding Adrian Nastase’s request for sentences merger postponed until March 3

The decision regarding Adrian Nastase’s request for merger of the two final sentences was postponed yesterday by judges at the Bucharest Court of Law, on the grounds that the ‘Zambacian’ file was never presented to the court, as it did not contain an explanatory statement. After it was established that the court was competent to rule in this case, the court announced it could not carry on with the trial until the explanatory statement concerning the Supreme Court’s decision in the ‘Zambaccian’ case was provided. Therefore, the court will send the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ) a notification to verify whether the statement has been drafted. The trial is due to be resumed March 3. Adrian Nastase’s lawyers have asked the court to bring the entire ‘Zambaccian’ file from ICCJ and their request has been approved.
