Philips could make electric toothbrushes at Orastie plant

Philips could make electric toothbrushes under the brand Sonicare at the Orastie plant that is already making coffee machines, market sources quoted by zf.ro inform. The representatives of Philips have not confirmed the information, however they have stated that they “are investing in Romania,” without giving any other details. “Sogeco Romania (the company operating the plant in Orastie – editor’s note) is a strategic production unit for Philips,” they say. The Orastie plant has 500 employees and finished 2012 with a turnover of EUR 72 M, over three times higher than in 2009, the year when Philips became a shareholder. The representatives of the Orastie City Hall have pointed out that Philips has not informed them of a plan to diversify the production, however they have said that the Besser company, one of the Dutch company’s suppliers whose plant is located next to that of Philips, has announced its plan to expand and produce components for electric toothbrushes.
