Court of Auditors points to huge damages brought by ANRM, Romanian Academy

According to a Court of Auditors report on criminal complaints sent to the Public Ministry, tens of public institutions have committed offenses that resulted in significant damages, hotnews.ro informs.
For instance, the National Mineral Resources Agency caused a RON 2.4 billion (EUR 550 million) prejudice due to failure to comply with mining legislation, based on a criminal complaint filed with the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice in January 2013. The Romanian Academy also caused a EUR 536.2 million prejudice, according to a complaint filed with DNA in June 2010 for alienating land property at a price below the market value.
Multiple criminal complaints were filed against the Romanian National Company of Motorways and National Roads (CNADNR). Energy companies also caused incredibly large damages. The National Uranium Company has been accused of having expenses that were not approved by Government decision. The estimated prejudice is RON 21.1 million (EUR 4.8 million) and the complaint was filed in July 2012. Many other complaints were filed against local authorities. According to the report, 50 complaints filed by the Court of Auditors have not been solved, of which 21 were filed in 2013, 12 in 2012, 4 in 2011, 9 in 2010, 3 in 2009, and one in 2008.
