The National Bank of Romania (BNR) has announced a reference exchange rate up by 3.23 bani (0.72 percent) to RON/EUR 4.5239, the maximum of the last here weeks, given that market quotations were slightly above RON/EUR 4.5 Wednesday afternoon, going up to RON/EUR 4.52 the next day, as the governing coalition crisis deepened. On January 28, BNR had announced a higher parity than the value reported Thursday, namely one euro was quoted at RON 4.5317. The leu also depreciated relative to the US dollar on Thursday, as the exchange rate went up by 3.66 bani (1.12 percent) from RON/USD 3.2674 to RON/USD 3.3040. A quotation similar to yesterday was reported on February 7 and the RON/USD exchange rate had remained below this value until Thursday. The RON/CHF exchange rate went up by 3.04 bani (0.83 percent) on Thursday from 3.6770 units to 3.7074 units, thus reaching the highest level of the last 14 months. A higher parity than the value reported Thursday was announced by BNR on December 13, 2012, when the Swiss franc was quoted at RON 3.7269.
