League I: Steaua and Dinamo finish derby in a tie

Steaua vs. Dinamo, the traditional derby of the Romanian world of football, ended in a tie after Steaua managed to equalize just several minutes before the final whistle, score 1-1. Steaua remains at the top of the rankings even after this result, having a 4-point lead over runners-up Astra, who lost their game in Cluj.
Dragos Grigore opened the score for Dinamo in the 56th minute, from a penalty kick. Claudiu Keseru equalized for Steaua in the 88th minute.
The game started after a delay of several minutes because of the torches lit by the two teams’ fans. Both teams played offensively, even rashly most of the time so that their actions did not lead to significant chances. Steaua had the first chance but Balgradean palmed away Sanmartean’s shot in the 7th minute.
In the second half Dinamo managed to score at the end of a counter-attack, after Tucudean was brought down in the box by Tatarusanu. Dragos Grigore converted the penalty kick. After a period in which Steaua’s attacks proved futile, Keseru scored the equalizer in the 88th minute, this being his first goal for Steaua.
In the 130 derbies the two teams have played so far, Dinamo has registered 45 wins against Steaua’s 39, while 46 games were draws. The goal-average however favors Steaua, 177-173.
“First of all we are disappointed because we did not live up to the level we were expecting. We made a lot of mistakes and we have a lot of things to discuss this week. Nevertheless, it’s very important that we came back into the game and scored,” Steaua coach Laurentiu Reghecampf stated for Digi Sport after the game. In another game, Universitatea Cluj unexpectedly defeated Astra Giurgiu, score 1-0 (1-0 at half time). Astra has registered only a win in the last four games (a defeat and a draw against Steaua at the end of last year, a win against Corona and a defeat against U Cluj).
Also on Friday, FC Viitorul Constanta finished their game against CFR Cluj in a tie, 1-1 (0-0 at half time).
