INS: Foreigners in Romanian tourist structures, still few

Arrivals in the tourist accommodation structures in Romania dropped by 0.4 percent in January 2014 from January 2013, down to 425,000, and the number of nights spent decreased by 2.3 percent down to 840,000 from the same period of last year, according to the provisional data made public by the National Institute of Statistics (INS) on Monday. In December 2013 more than 498,000 people arrived in the tourist structures in Romania, 18.2 percent of them being foreign tourists. At the border crossing points there were decreases both in the arrivals of the foreign visitors (1.8 percent) and in the departures abroad of Romanian visitors (0.3 percent) this January from same month in 2013. The arrivals of the Romanian tourists in the tourist accommodation structures accounted for 78.5 percent of the total number of arrivals in January 2014, whereas the foreign tourists accounted for 21.5 percent of the total number of arrivals, shares that are almost like the ones in January 2013. As for the arrivals of the foreign tourists in the tourist structures, the most numerous ones came from Europe (81.9 percent of all foreign tourists) and 79 percent of them came from the European Union member states – most numerous arrivals were from Hungary, Bulgaria, Germany. The arrivals of the foreign visitors in Romania, which were registered at the border crossing points, totaled 453,300 in January 2014, down by 1.8 percent from January 2013.
