Rusanu resigns, Daniel Daianu, interim president of ASF

Dan Radu Rusanu, currently under arrest for 30 days in connection with the ‘Carpatica & ASF’ case, has resigned as president of the Insurance Supervisory Commission (ASF), Daniel Daianu, First Vice-President and interim President of the Commission, stated Wednesday after the Senate’s Budget and Finance Commission hearings.

One of the first measures the interim president intends to implement is cutting back employee wages. “The wages are high and our intention is to lower them by taking into account both the normal emotional implications of such wages in a society ravaged by the economic crisis, but also data that should not necessarily be connected to the economic crisis. The legislative act stipulates a particular standard should not be exceeded, but it does not specify the precise level,” Daianu said, as cited by Agerpres. “This is a personal decision that I will uphold – cutting back my own wage by 30 percent, resulting in the equivalent wage of EUR 12,800.”

On Tuesday, the Bucharest Court of Appeals approved the 30-day remand in custody of Dan Radu Rusanu, president of ASF, on suspicion of influence peddling and fraud. The court’s decision is final and was made in response to the appeal filed by National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) prosecutors after their request for remand in custody was rejected by the Bucharest Court of Law on February 26.
