Last year, the Romanian National Computer Security Incident Response Team (CERT-RO) received over 43 million computer security alerts tied to over 2.2 million unique Romanian IP addresses that were involved in various computer security incidents, a CERT-RO press release notes. CERT-RO is an independent expertise, research & development structure aimed at protecting computer infrastructures and it has the necessary resources to prevent, analyze, identify, and respond to computer security incidents occurring in computer systems that manage public utilities or services for the information society. Based on the data collected, over 16 percent of all IP addresses allotted to Romania (approx. 13.5 million) were involved in at least one of the computer security alerts reported to CERT-RO in 2013. More than 29 percent of all individual alerts concern Romanian entities that host phishing websites, which are in turn harmful to both national and international financial institutions.
