Ford builds its 250,000 engine in Romania

Ford built its 250,000 engine at the company’s manufacturing facility in Craiova, Romania, since the start of the production in May 2012. According to a press release, the 250,000 engine is a 1.5 litre EcoBoost engine with 180 HP which will be shipped to United States to equip a Fusion model for an American Ford customer. The 1.5-litre EcoBoost engine is the first engine from Ford to incorporate a computer-controlled clutch on the belt-drive water pump, which further improves efficiencies by reducing warm-up time. A water-cooled charge air cooler is added to offer a more efficient feed of air into the engine. “We are very proud to achieving this great milestone for Craiova engine plant especially as our products reach customers all over the world. Craiova Engine Plant plays a very important role in Ford’s global engine manufacturing footprint by supporting the strong global demand for Ford’s fuel efficient and low CO2 emissions vehicles” said John Oldham, the newly appointed Manager of Craiova Powertrains Operations. Ford has also confirmed that later this year the Craiova made 1.5 litreEcoBoost engine will equip the world’s bestselling nameplate which is the Ford Focus. The first units of the 1.5 litreEcoBoost engine will be shipped from Craiova to the Focus assembly plant in Saarlouis (Germany) in the second half of this year.
