FinMin: EIB can play important role in facilitating SME access to funding

Public Finance Minister Ioana Petrescu says that the European Investment Bank (EIB) can play an important role in facilitating the access of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to funding, by increasing the share of loans aimed at funding this sector. According to a press release from the relevant ministry, Finance Minister Ioana Petrescu on Tuesday had a meeting with an EIB delegation led by Vice President Mihai Tanasescu, Agerpres reports.
‘The EIB has been an important dialogue partner of the Public Finance Ministry. Romanian authorities need the EIB expertise to implement some public and private projects at national and regional level,’ Minister Ioana Maria Petrescu said during the meeting.
The public finance minister underscored the fact that she appreciates the EIB support to implement the projects aimed at increasing the uptake of structural and cohesion funds of the European Union in Romania, as well as providing technical assistance for the preparation of the next programming period 2014-2020.
Moreover, Ioana Petrescu said she supports facilitating the SME access to funding and mentioned that the EIB can play an important role in this regard by increasing the share of loans for this sector. Another topic of the discussion referred to the opportunity to diversify the EIB intervention sectors in Romania. In this context, Mihai Tanasescu said that the EIB is willing to fund, in partnership with the Romanian authorities, some energy, infrastructure and education projects.
