234,000 pensioners get pensions higher by RON 63 on average

234,000 pensioners will get higher pensions, RON 63 higher on average, till the end of March, after the implementation of the correction index, as well as the pension difference for November and December 2013, as the budget for the two months was RON 23 million, announced yesterday Rovana Plumb, Minister of Labour, Family, Social Protection and Elderly Citizens. The pensions’ recalculation was ruled by the Government on December 18, 2013 through emergency ordinance, adopted following the Constitutional Court rule on the pensions between 2011 and January 2013.
According to the Minister of Labour, the correction index is valid for the people who got retired after January 1, 2011 according to the law, providing a better correlation between salary earning and pension they receive.
“The recalculation wipes the discrepancies that stemmed frustration and humiliations,” added the Minister of Labour.
The minister added that the budget was RON 132 million in 2013 when the correction index was implemented. Rovana Plumb also said that the budget for the correction index for 2014 will increase to RON 250 million, as those retired in 2013 and this year will also be included.
PM Ponta: Pension indexation to exceed 4 pc in 2015
PM Victor Ponta, present at the conference, ensured that the necessary money is already included in the budget on 2014 passed by the Parliament, as about RON 200 million were transferred from the Government budget to the budget of government social contributions.
He admitted that the pensions are still low compared to the pensioners’ needs, but pointed out that this is a recovery following the losses incurred between 2009 and 2011. “It is essential that the money is given, not taken,” said Ponta.  He also underlined that “the Labour Ministry is the toughest ministry in a Cabinet. (…) There was an indexation by 3.75 percent in 2014. In 2015 there will be an indexation of 4 percent or even more.” According to the premier, the social security budget was hiked by about 200 million lei from the state budget.
‘As there are no elements challenging the recalculation, I expect each retiree to know exactly the amount of his/her pension, not to resume that nightmare of the recalculations, and when some recalculations are made, there should be a surplus. We must enforce the new provisions as regards the first and second labour group, we have to apply the correction index,’ Ponta said.
